The Been Briefing

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL MORNING!!

yesterday as i was preparing for class my new friend and fellow teacher esther surprised me here at the apartment with the news that the speakers she has purchased for me had arrived, and that a man from her church could bring them over by bike. he arrived shortly thereafter carrying a box... it was rather large to hold two little speakers for a laptop. i immediately began thinking, 'maybe i wasn't clear enough in telling her what i was looking for.' they were a little bigger than anticipated.
i was a little taken aback (but i tried very hard to show my gratitude - which was genuine, thankfully). yay for speakers and - get this - my subwoofer. Ahahaha! now i can have mad parties here in my cottage apartment. LOL (anyone want to come?) anyway, i am very grateful for God's goodness to me in providing such a wonderful friend.
esther, i believe, is a kindred spirit. she is 28 in english -30 in korean, i think- and taller than me, which is an oddity here. her english is by the far the best i have encountered here in korea, and it's because she spends several hours in the morning studying english and the Bible. her dedication is inspiring and her passion for Jesus is so encouraging to me. her love for all things english reminds me of my love for the german language. she is also more athletic than most korean girls. she has talked of taking me to go mountain climbing near seoul. (WOOHOO!) there is a mountain there that takes about 4 hours to climb, and once you reach the summit you can see all around - the capital city - for miles. anyway, on a side note, apparently it is becoming more popular for girls here to work out and try to get a little more muscular. it's hilarious seeing these extremely petite korean girls hold bags and strain, saying they need to lift weights. i am trying to imagine one of them next to bulky american girls at the gyms.

as of yet, my bank account is still not set up, which has been alright until about now. lauren has been extremely gracious, spotting money until i can get my finances here in korea in order. the exchange is roughly $1 = 1000 won. grocery shopping is much easier; i just move the "decimal point" left three places. wooohoo for math class! it DOES have real-life application after all. :) until i have my account, i will have to find a bank and get my traveller's checks cashed. will probably recruit esther or mrs. kim for that one.

side note: download SKYPE from http://www.skype.com . it's free internet telephony that requires only a microphone, and the connection is actually amazingly clear - perhaps superceding that of a landline. i would love to hear your voice.

praying that the Lord Jesus will keep you in His care and fill you with His mighty Spirit. He alone is worthy of our adoration.
