Cajón: Percussion Goodness

This summer Jody decided to do something with the plywood that was lying around in the backyard. He decided to make a cajon.

What is a cajon, you ask?

A cajon ("crate," "drawer," or "box") is a box-shaped percussion instrument orginal from Peru, played by slapping the front face (generally thin plywood) with the hands.

So, for a week or so Jody was unavailable, and there was much noise in the backyard. I would go back there to make sure he hadn't cut off an arm or a leg, and he was happily sawing, sanding, staining or nailing some piece of wood.

In the end, this is what Jody created: a homemade cajon! And in case you're wondering, the Hebrew written in the bottom corner means "praise."

These days Jody has joined the worship team at church, gaining experience playing his beautiful cajon. I'm so proud of him, especially since I lack all musical ability. :)

Christy Nockels 'Waiting Here For You'

Christy Nockels
'Waiting Here For You'

If faith can move the mountains
Let the mountains move
We come with expectation
Waiting here for you, I’m waiting here for you

You’re the Lord of all creation

And still you know my heart
The Author of Salvation
You’ve loved us from the start

CHORUS

Waiting here for You
With our hands lifted high in praise
And it's You we adore
Singing Alleluia

You are everything You’ve promised

Your faithfulness is true
And we're desperate for Your presence
All we need is You

CHORUS

Singing Alleluia

Alleluia, singing alleluia, alleluia

CHORUS

Waiting here for you

With our hands lifted high in praise
And it's You we adore
We're singing Alleluia

I'm singing Alleluia

Waiting here for you
With our hands lifted high in praise
And it's You we adore
Singing Alleluia
Singing Alleluia

Nichole Nordeman - Brave
From the album Brave

The gate is wide
The road is paved in moderation
The crowd is kind
And quick to pull you in
Welcome to the middle ground
It’s safe and sound and
Until now it’s where I’ve been

‘Cause it’s been fear that ties me down to everything
But it’s been love, Your love, that cuts the strings

Chorus:
So long, status quo
I think I just let go
You make me want to be brave
The way it always was
Is no longer good enough
You make me want to be brave
Brave

I am small
And I speak when spoken to
But I am willing to risk it all
I saw Your name
Just Your name and I’m ready to jump
Even ready to fall

Why did I take this vow of compromise?
Why did I try to keep it all inside?
I’ve never known a fire that didn’t begin with a flame
Every storm will start with just a drop of rain
But, if You believe in me that changes everything
