"If only you could know Him..."

On the bus back to Suji tonight I was thinking of Betsy ten Boom in The Hiding Place. Amidst the beatings, the horrible conditions, and the hatred in Ravensbruck (a concentration camp in Nazi Germany, where they were sent for hiding Jews in their apartment during WWII), she and Corrie showed such love to the broken, bitter, confused, wounded, and angry women in Barrack 28. The sisters returned evil with good, praying for those who beat them, and thanking our precious Lord Jesus for everything- even something like the humiliation of nakedness in front of cruel and arrogant guards. They took His clothes, too, when they nailed Him to the Cross. In the power of His love and Spirit, they brought Jesus' light into the deepest darkness of that place.

The words echoing in the depths of my heart right now are Betsy's broken cries to the women who mocked them: "If only you could know Him..."

I, too, pray that for you. Whoever reads this... may you know Him and find that Truth and Life are found only in Him.
